Phantom pain

Phantom pain

Characteristics of phantom pain: Phantom pain is a painful sensation amputees may feel in the part of the body that has been amputated. It is experienced by up to one-third of amputees and is resistant to treatment. We recommend Biomag low-frequency pulsed magnetic therapy using analgesic frequencies to be applied 2 to 3 times daily to the respective segments of the spine and/or head.

Using magnetic therapy for phantom pain

Pain in the stump need not be phantom pain and may be caused by poor blood supply or nerve irritation, etc. Professional internal and neurological examination is required and treatment should be initiated according to the identified cause. We use analgesic frequencies from 2-10 Hz to manage pain in the stump, which is later used alternately with vasodilatory frequencies.

Application of magnetic therapy for phantom pain

We apply Biomag low-frequency pulsed magnetic therapy at analgesic frequencies of 2-10 Hz to treat acute phantom extremity pain, and at 2-25 Hz for long term pain relief.
To be applied using a solenoid or flat applicator 2-3 times daily to the area affected by pain and to the respective segments of the spine.
